A Message To All The Struggling Writers Out There
The Misconception Around Struggling
You’re supposed to struggle when you start writing.
If writing well were easy everyone would be doing it. But it’s not. And many people give up their dream of being a writer when they face adversity. Adversity for writers is writers block.
I’m not going to go into what writers block is because our time is limited. Instead, I will tell you to embrace the struggle of writing well if you want to improve.
Today I want to talk about what struggling with your writing really means.
First I want to clear the air.
There’s a misconception around struggling.
We think struggling is negative.
We think if we’re struggling then we aren’t smart enough.
We think if we’re struggling then we aren’t competent and can’t do the work.
This type of thinking about struggling leads us down a path of negative self-talk and eventually we give up.
Struggling is not negative. It doesn’t mean you’re not smart and it doesn’t mean you can’t do the work.
