On Writing: The Times When Writing Can Be Hard
Sometimes it can be hard, but most of the time it’s easy
I see it all the time. Writers telling others that writing is hard but the truth is writing is easy. Really easy. There are times when writing can be difficult but overall writing is easy. This morning writing was hard for me but it’s not for the reasons you might think writing was hard.
If you think writing is hard then consider this maybe you’re writing about something that you don’t know that well and you’re struggling to write because you have an information gap that you need to fill.
For me, I sat down this morning and had an idea about what to write and mid way through I realized there was information missing and I had to go find it. I was taken out of my groove because I was teaching but I still had to learn more myself.
Writing to Learn
When you’re writing to learn, you’re writing to think.
You’re writing to promote what you’re learning to yourself and to others. Writing to learn is writing about what you learned from a book, course, or conversation you had with someone. It’s making what you’ve learned stick better. The only goal you should have when writing this way is to increase your understanding and think about what you’ve…
