The Power of Waking up 5 AM
--
Why I am a believer in waking up at 5 am after not waking up at 5
I wanted to take the position that waking up at 5 is not important and you can still get more done without waking up at 5 am, but I was wrong.
I spent the past 30 days, not doing my normal routine of waking up at 5 am and going to the gym. I tried to do something different. So, I slept in, but my time sleeping in didn’t go in vain, I needed to rest, I was close to burning out.
Today I woke up at 5 am, it felt like I was living a brand-new life. I felt fresh.
The past 30 days I’ve struggled to get things done, I’ve struggled to write, I’ve struggled to get to the gym, I’ve struggled at everything. I felt off my game.
And the difference between the last 30 days and past months is…I wasn’t waking up at 5 am! After going through a period of not waking up at 5 am, I am committing to myself to wake up at 5 am, and I want you to commit to waking up at 5 am too! Because it’s that powerful and a habit that I believe can change your life for the better.
You can only have two things in life, reasons or results.
You can have reasons why you can’t do something, but those things don’t matter. The reasons you tell yourself you can’t do something are limiting beliefs. What matters are results. Waking up at 5 am can produce results.
Commit to having more time for yourself. Commit to the results you want. Waking up at 5 am helps to build structure, but it requires discipline.
Before you go any further ask yourself what would you do with a few extra hours in the morning?
“Wake up and follow your passion”
That dream you want to accomplish, that business you want to start, put the hours in at 5 am when you are fresh.
Wake up and follow your passion. People that wake up at 5 am make things happen. What are you going to make happen for yourself?
Start small by planning your day when you wake up because when you start waking up at 5 am it will be a struggle.
How to wake up at 5 am
Take some time for yourself to wind down after your day, give yourself one-two hours to wind down and prepare for bed.
Half of the battle of waking up at 5 am is preparing yourself to wake up at 5 am.
The best way to prepare to wake up at 5 am is to write out what you are going to do when you wake up and set out the things you are going to need, to do what you say you are going to do.
Before you go to bed write down what you want to do in the morning and put a time on it.
Example: I am going to listen to an inspirational message at 5:30 am to get my morning started and put me in the mindset to accomplish my goals.
Layout what you are going to do in the morning the night before.
If you’re going to the gym in the morning, put your gym shoes by your bed, and sleep in your gym clothes. Wake up ready to go to the gym.
If you are going to write in the morning, put your open journal out on your writing desk with a pen ready to go.
What you do the night before sets the tone for your morning
After you have prepared for the next day you have to get to bed early. If you go to bed at 9 pm every night you can get 8 hours of sleep. I try to go to bed at 9 but realistically, I am in bed by 10 or 11 pm. My sleep analysis says I get or spend 6h 8m in bed, so I’m not perfect at this.
At 9 pm my phone goes into sleep mode and I try to stop using it at that time. I try to put my phone down, which leads me to my next point. Set a time to stop using your phone, iPad, and laptop. I stop using my phone but I am sooo guilty of sleeping in bed with my phone, I’m not going to say put your phone away from your bed because I don’t. My phone and I are in a very committed relationship. We don’t go anywhere without each other and when my phone says it is time to get up in the morning I get up. Don’t press snooze when your phone goes off. You have to answer when your phone calls in the morning.
